Bill and Dr. Adriana Hayward
Founders HaywardScore & Hayward Healthy Homes
In 2008, the Hayward family became extremely sick after moving into their “dream home”. Bill, CEO and Chief Sustainability Officer of Hayward, a 100-year-old California lumber and building material supplier and his wife, a licensed clinical health psychologist, turned their focus onto healthy building. This started the journey to reduce toxicity in buildings, improve human health, and reduce buildings’ energy footprint. In 2015, Bill and Adriana founded HaywardScore, a free online tool to assess the health of a home. Based on a complex algorithm, the tool is able to provide specific actionable information on how to make each home healthier. The company, with over 55,000 scores of US homes, is the largest data bank of human health and the built environment.
Bill is Chairman Emeritus of FSC US and chaired the Forest Stewardship Council US for 5 years. He graduated from UCLA and the Stanford Executive Program. Former Industry Entrepreneur of The Year, Bill was the first in the U.S. to stock and sell Forest Stewardship Council-certified lumber. Adriana attended Wellesley College, obtained a master’s degree in gerontology and healthy aging from USC, and earned her doctorate in clinical psychology from CIIS, with a specialty in health.
